Education: Master of Social Work, University of Lucknow

Last Employer: Women Welfare Department, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, MWCD, GOI

Over the years I had the opportunity to work in social sector that allowed me to make an actual difference to many people’s lives which is one of the reasons that prompted me to opt for studying social work in graduation and post-graduation as well. The organizations, governmental or otherwise, that I came to work with while pursuing higher education, included National Association for the Blind, Sahyog, and I-Care – which engage in settings as diverse as aiding the unsighted, capacity building and empowerment of women and children and improvement of government primary schools. As much as I am getting to work in this sector, I am developing a deeper understanding of ground realities, enhance my abilities, skills and knowledge and be able to apply that more efficiently while working on the ground.

After completing post-graduation, I worked in Women Welfare Department (under Ministry of WCD, GOI) as Centre Administrator of One Stop Centre (OSC) in District Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and later in District Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. As a Centre Administrator my major responsibilities have included providing integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence, management of government projects and coordinate with different stakeholders. The time I have spent dealing with severe social issues that cripple abundant individuals, man and woman, and the society at large, have helped me learn and understand countless facts, as well as the fact that I need to know more than I do presently. The Public policy in Action fellowship offers an extensive learning while at the same time confronting ground realities by working in some of the most challenging districts of India, strengthening public services with active involvement and participation in strategic planning, developing and implementing public programmes and be a part of the change process.
